This Week's Topic: Bald Eagles

We've had tons of fun learning about bald eagles, and watching the Decorah eagles on our ENO board.  Hopefully your child has shared some things they've learned. The eagle puppets were a huge hit today!

Next week: Flowers & planting seeds!

Snack Time

We are learning through even the smallest activities at school.  We even learn at snack time!  Each day we wash hands, then go into the cafeteria, where each child chooses a carton of milk. They can choose from chocolate or white milk.

We then make our way to the table, where each child opens their own milk carton. This is a very valuable skill for elementary school!  Everyone was able to open their own carton, then the school switched providers and the cartons are more difficult to open!  Teachers help students open their milk, or they ask a friend sitting next to them for assistance. It is awesome to see them helping each other.  They have very big hearts!

We also practice good table manners, keeping our voices quiet, and how to remain sitting on the stool. This is not as easy as you may think! The stools just begg to be stood on, twirled on, and kicked!  The large room seems like a great place for running and yelling!  We try very hard to show them the cafeteria rules, so they are prepared when they are in Kindergarten, and come to the cafeteria for breakfast and/or lunch.

Ants on a Log

It's always fun when Ms. Kelley visits! She always brings a book or flannel board story, then leads the kids in some active songs to move their bodies (healthy exercise!)

Sometimes she brings new foods for us to try.  Today she came to the cafeteria with us during snack and we made a healthy snack, Ants on a Log!

The kids got to make their own snack, with all of the ingredients (celery, peanut butter, and dried cherries) and a plastic knife. They did a great job!

The students were very brave about trying foods they'd never had before and many of them really liked it!  Lots of kids asked for seconds on the dried cherries!

Dental Health

Last week Lisa Wirth visited our classroom to teach us about good dental health. We'd prepared by reading lots of books about taking care of our teeth and about visiting the dentist. All of the students got to brush the big teeth with the big toothbrush. which they loved! If schedules align, we will visit Dodge Dental Clinic sometime in April or May!
